How do I use the lancets?
With the lancet, twist and pull the long piece of safety plastic off the end of the lancet. Then, place the lancet between your index and middle finger (like holding a syringe). Place and hold onto the finger you wish to draw blood from and squeeze the lancet.
What should I do if I'm having trouble drawing blood from my finger?
Here are some tips that generally help during the collection process:
- Drink plenty of water in the hours prior to your sample collection
- The best place to use the lancet is just off the center of the finger pad of the 3rd (middle) or 4th (ring) finger of the hand. The sides and the tip of the finger are not ideal and should be avoided
- Make sure your hands (fingers) are warm. You can hold them under warm running water for 30 seconds or so to increase circulation
- Place your finger on a firm surface, like a countertop or kitchen counter, to ensure that you get enough depth when activating the lancet
